The TID Rollover Event is almost upon us and it’s crucial for you to update your prepaid electricity meter to ensure that you’re not left in the dark. 

The TID Rollover Event is not as intimidating as it seems. All it means is that the Token Identifiers or TID in the 20-digit prepaid electricity tokens are set to a base date of 1993 and will officially run out on 24 November 2024. It’s crucial to reset your prepaid electricity meter to reflect the new base date range of 2014. 

First, you need to check that your meter needs to be updated by entering the following ESKOM-issued token: 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416. If your meter reflects the number 1, then it needs to be reset. If your meter reflects the number 2, then it has already been updated to the new base date range and doesn’t need updating. 

To update your prepaid electricity meter to the new base date range, please contact your local municipality.
